he joined the newly recruited Bengali regiment on
1916 and sent to Mesopotamia some months before the armistice. The regiment was not given
a chance to face battle but all the same Nazrul got his fill of the fighting gusto which
later-found expression in poetic effusion and warmth. Nazrul's life and poetical works are
awe-inspiring and fascinating. He showed equal dexterity in two entirely opposite fields.
On the one hand, he is a rebel and gives a clarion call for daring the odds in
freedom struggle and on the other hand he is gentle, subtle and incredibly charming in his
love poems. He is popularly known as rebel poet (Vidrohi Kabi). The rebellious songs and
poems of Nazrul had immensely inspired the freedom fighters to embrace death for the cause
of the nation. Again, those romantic songs of Nazrul which were steeped with the fervour
of love and romantic passion had tied the emotional Bengalis in a sweetly sad bondage. He
was unrivalled in the field of devotional songs as well. He is not known for his religion
or caste. He raised himself much higher than the narrow criteria of Hinduism or Islam and
became immortal as a poet of exception calibre.
Nazrul Islam wrote a good numbers of valuable poems, songs, novels, dramas. He had a good
command on classic Indian song. He could sing, recite and act with considerable
proficiency. His notable books are are AgniBeena, Bhangar
Gaan, Bisher Banshi , Dolonchampa, Puber Haoya and Bulbul. etc. He died on 22nd august
